There's a four-star review of the John Platania CD in the new issue (Sept.) of DownBeat. here's a sample:

"Never sacrificing texture and nuance for ostentatious might, this journeyman plays extremely well on top-quality Texas blues, Tex-Mex and 'all over the map' songs that he and longtime colleague Chip Taylor wrote together or separately. Spots of poignant singing or speaking by the likes of Lucinda Williams combine with the colorful, exciting music for a sweeping cinematic effect: wide-screen storytelling with panoramic shots of the exceptional Rio Grande Plain."
